First face-to-face meeting of the Hydrousa project

On the 21st and 23rd of September, CWP participated in the 9th consortium meeting of the HYDROUSA project (H2020, Grant Agreement 776643) in the Greek island of Lesvos. The meeting took place at the Mytilene campus of the University of the Aegean, a collaborating partner in the project, where the latest updates on the project were shared, both in terms of pilots and other activities. On the second day, a technical visit was made to the HYDRO 1 and HYDRO 2 pilots, located near the town of Antissa, in the western part of the island. Among the various technologies, the participants were able to observe the operation of the UASB plant of HYDRO 1 – an anaerobic digester with biogas production designed and built by Aeris – and the following stages of water treatment by means of constructed lagoons, as well as the biogas purification treatment to obtain methane. Afterwards, a visit was made to the adjacent HYDRO 2, an agroforestry system fertirrigated with the reclaimed water from HYDRO 1, where the results obtained could be appreciated and the fruits and vegetables of the field could be tasted directly.

With regard to the tasks in which CWP is most involved, the meeting presented the advances related to the replication and transferability activities of the project’s technologies, where CWP, together with ICRA, are responsible for the feasibility studies in Spain (Balearic and Canary Islands) and Portugal (island of Culatra, in the Algarve).
