Water Reuse Europe congress held in Girona

The Water Reuse Europe congress was held on 20th and 21st September and it is considered one of the benchmark forums on water reuse from the perspective of innovation. The event was organised with the support of Eurecat, Arup, the Consorci d’Aigües Costa Brava Girona and the Catalan Water Partnership. At the event, Miquel Rovira, Director of the Eurecat Sustainability Area, welcomed the participants and opened the event, followed by Samuel Reyes, Director of the ACA, who gave a talk on “Advanced water reuse in Catalonia”. Afterwards, David Smith, director of WE&B, spoke on “How can we ensure economic sustainability for water reuse”. ICRA also had its own space: on the one hand, Maria José Farré, research scientist, gave the paper “Fate of disinfection by-products and their precursors during a wastewater reuse trial in the Llobregat river, Spain”. Later, Dr. Wolfgang Gernjak, Xavier Martínez Lladó and Joaquim Comas presented the Suggereix project, funded by the Catalan Water Agency and led by Eurecat. The project has developed an innovative decision support system that will help organisations managing reuse schemes to plan future initiatives. Throughout the congress, topics such as reuse in urban environments, potable applications, the protection of public health, the application of nature-based solutions and solutions for industry were addressed. The forum will bring together specialists, developers, industry leaders, solution and technology providers, policy makers, researchers, end-users and consultants, who will share their experiences and perspectives on water reuse.
