More than 170 people registered in the III Forum of Innovation of the Water Sector organized by the CWP

On March 7th, the CWP held the III Forum of Innovation of the Water Sector at the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC) in Barcelona. The event, with a great success of attendance, continues to position itself as a key event in the sector to identify the main tools and opportunities for financing initiatives and R & D projects, as well as to discover the technological innovations and the R + D + i projects that are being carried out with the participation and leadership of Catalan entities.

The event was opened by Mr. Jaume Massó i Cartagena, Director of the ICGC, together with Mr. Jordi Cros, President of the CWP, who valued the role of the cluster in facilitating open innovation and the contact between the scientific and technological offer, entrepreneurs and the water industry.

Then, there was the inaugural conference where Mr. Miquel Rey, general business director of Eurecat – that sponsored this act – and that presented the Dr. Oriol Amat, professor of the UPF and dean of the UPF Barcelona School of Management on the Competitiveness of the Catalan economy and company, referring to the current situation, perspectives and the key role of innovation.

The head of the CWP, Mr. Xavier Amores, presented the main strategic axes of the CWP, as well as the main activities and opportunities linked to the cluster, highlighting the large number of projects underway linked to Industry 4.0, Circular Economy, Internationalization and Business Development, at the state level and international with the participation of more than fifty associated entities in 27 projects.

Afterward, the main tools for innovation in the water sector were presented, by Mr. José Manuel Bueno, Head of the Department of Chemistry and Environment of the CDTI and Mr. Joan Comas, Manager of the Area of ​​projects of R & D and innovation of ACTION.

The last part of the session was devoted to lectures in elevator pitch format, which were divided into three main groups: (1) Digitization and Industry 4.0 with the participation of ABM, BGEO, CETAQUA, CREATECH 360º, HIDROTUÏT i ICRA, (2) Solutions for industrial sectors and potable and residual waters, with the presentations of BLUEPHAGE, CARBUROS METÁLICOS, EURECAT, IDAEA-CSIC, UB i WATEROLOGIES and (3) Circular Economy – Environment – Nature Based Solutions, with the participation of Centre Tecnològic BETA (UVic-UCC), HIDROQUIMIA, LEITAT Technological Center, UAB i UdG.

As a novelty, the event featured the First edition of the Catalan Water Partnership Awards for the Best Innovative Solution and R & D Project. The winner was Joaquim Comas, professor and researcher at ICRA, with the presentation Lifestyle and health information mined from sewage: a new paradigm for urban epidemiology, joined by the finalists: Victoria Salvador, Professor of the University of Girona with the project INNOQUA: A Decentralized, innovative and eco-sustainable system for water regeneration, and Antonio Cuevas, Executive Director of Waterologies with the presentation Anywhere water.

Finally, Ms. Marta Subirà, Secretary of Environment and Sustainability of the Generalitat of Catalonia, held the closing ceremony highlighting the role of the cluster as a space for innovation in a strategic sector for Catalonia and together with the President of the CWP, Mr. Jordi Cros, proceeded to the awards ceremony.
