On March 2, Mr. Josep Maria Gascón, director of competitive intelligence and strategy of ACCIO and the consulting firm PwC, presented at the IV Jornada d’Immersió Estratègica del CWP, the Strategic Update study of the water sector in Catalonia.

We have a number of Identified 402 Companies working in the water sector, with a total of 10,161 M € turnover and 45.465 workers (2015). This Represents a Turnover of water of 4,480 M € (2015), Which Represents 2.2% of the Catalan GDP (2015). In this study, it also highlights That 94% of Companies in the water sector are SMEs and 74% are Companies Established for over 10 years. It Should Be Noted too, That 52.7% of Companies in the water sector are exporters and 13.7% have subsidiary abroad.

Also, the update of the sector in Catalonia concludes that there is a wide network of research centers in the field of water, and stresses the CWP as the main sector entity. In this sense, the president of CWP, Mr. Robert Mas, said that “the CWP currently has 60 members, which represent billing at 60% of the sector according to this study.”

Keep in mind that although the sector in the period 2007-2015 had a negative trend in terms of turnover, the last four years there has been an improvement with a moderate growth of 1.27%, especially in the last year, thanks mainly from industrial sectors related to the design and manufacture of products for the entire water cycle.
